Every year millions of people declare that they are “going on a diet”. Usually this consists of starving their bodies of essential nutrition and entire food groups. It is not surprising that as a result, over 90% of diets end in complete and utter failure. The diet industry is a multi-billion dollar monster that bombards people with images of dangerously skinny women who are supposed to be considered “success stories”.

There are many obvious reasons that can explain why diets fail. First of all, many diets are based on a fixed goal, such as dropping down to a certain weight or waist size. Once the individual reaches this goal, they fell as though they have been released from to rules of the diet and quickly gain back the weight. Diets can also slow down your metabolism and cause you to burn less calories then you normal would.

In order for a diet to succeed it must not be just a temporary solution, a lifestyle change. Currently one the most successful diets are the green tea diet. Although this may seem too good to be true, it has produced consistent results in laboratory studies. By simply drinking a cup or two of green tea every day, individuals reported feeling energized and healthy. Little did they know that at the same time they were actually losing a little bit of weight. Green tea increases your body’s ability to burn calories and will actually give your metabolism a boost. This is exactly the type of improvement that millions of dieting Americans are looking to make.

Before going on any diet it is important to do research and create a plan that you honestly believe you can stick to for a long period of time. If you follow these guidelines, you will have a much greater chance at dropping those extra pounds.
